The pounding started at the entrance to the shack only ten feet from her own doorway in the Majengo slum. Sabina heard the pleas from the woman who lived in the tiny, cramped room with the mud floor and mud walls as she begged the men to leave her and her two young girls alone. Her cries were answered with punches, kicks, laughter, and then screams as her 14-year-old daughter was attacked one after another by all nine men, right in front of her mother’s eyes. The woman was next. Each of the nine men had their way with her as her six-year-old daughter hid in the shadows of the corner of the room only a few feet away, and watched.
And then it was over. There was silence . . . until the men moved to the second door, which was the room next to Sabina’s.
